The Dubois County Museum announces their programming for November and the Christmas
season for 2024.
On Saturday, November 9, Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. for our young visitors. Ms. Carrie
Holdsworth will present stories, crafts and activities on the theme of “Thanks”.
On Sunday, November 10, the museum is open from 1-4:00 p.m. A must see the military
exhibit. Veterans are admitted free.
Volunteers will gather at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11, to trim the Christmas trees for
the holiday season and to prepare for the museum’s holiday program, the Festival of Trees.
Over fifty trees will be set up and will be ready to decorate. Community and those contacted
non-profit organization volunteers are welcome to decorate their trees at this time or make
arrangements for decorating during museum daily hours of 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. or by calling
Kathy Bachman or Clara Fromme. A tour bus visiting Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt comes for
lunch and a tour on Saturday, November 16 and is looking forward to seeing the decorations at
the museum.
The Grand Opening of the Festival of Trees and the 2024 Holiday Season at the Museum will be
Thursday evening, December Thursday, November 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is a free
admission evening. Food and refreshment served, including homemade ice cream. Public
voting for a favorite Christmas tree begins and continues through the Christmas season. At this
time also the museum’s Exhibit’s Team opens a temporary Christmas display called, “A Musical
Christmas”. “Christmas music sparks memories of years gone by and fuels our excitement for
the season. This exhibit will feature different antique musical instruments, phonograph
records, sheet music, and highlight the history of our cherished Christmas songs”
On Saturday, December 7, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Strings, Inc. will perform on the Log House
porch for the O’Tannenbaum weekend. Delight in the sweet sounds of violin music performed
by students of various ages in this organization. Strings, Inc. is led by Rafaela Schaick.
December 14 and 15 will be a busy weekend at the museum. On Saturday, December 14 the
museum hosts, “A Visit with Santa” from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Young visitors can enjoy fresh baked
cinnamon rolls and muffins baked by local bakers Shirley Schmitt and Doris Hulsman. Fruit and
breakfast drinks will also be available. Visitors can also enjoy crafts and games and a visit with
Santa. Cost is $7 per adults and $5 per children under 10. Reservations must be made by
emailing [email protected] by December 10. Please pay at the door. Special this
year, Storytime with Carrie Holdsworth, will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the log house. Hear stories
while visiting Santa. Theme is “Cookies and Christmas”.
Also on Saturday, December 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. AND Sunday, December 15, from
1:00-3:30 p.m. (or while the supply lasts) a Cookie Walk will be held in the museum’s Board
Room. Homemade cookies and candies, made by the museum volunteers and the ladies from
Alpha Delta Kappa/Beta Gamma Sorority, will be available. Cookies and candies will be sold by
the pound.
On Thursday, December 19, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. the museum celebrates the Christmas season
with our many volunteers, tree decorators, museum patrons and the public for a special free
admission night to view the decorations and enjoy the holidays together. Voting for a favorite
Christmas tree ends and the winners will be announced. Winners will be presented with a box
of chocolates. Food and refreshments will be served.
The museum will be closed for the Christmas holiday on December 24 and 25 and December 31, 2024,
and January 1, 2025.
