The Dubois County Museum is having a sale on their Military Review of Dubois County, Indiana Volumes I and II books in the Gift Shop. Sale price is $5.00 per book. Gift Shop hours are 10 – 2pm Tuesday through Friday, 10 – 4pm on Saturday, and 1 – 4pm on Sunday.

The books were created by an idea to have a written history of Dubois County women and men serving in the military. The committee who compiled these books (Janet Lubbers Kluemper, Julia Kluemper Flynn, Shane Flynn, and Patricia Eckerle Goepfrich) asked the public, veterans or their families/friends, to send photos to be scanned to be included in the first book, and the public responded with over 3,000 photos of veterans with Dubois County roots. Volume II was later published after more information and photos kept arriving far past the deadline for Volume I, thus making the size of the book unwieldy. Pictures of men and women from all branches of service were accepted. In Volume II lists of veterans were included from as far back as a list of Mexican War veterans taken from Goodspeed Bros., The History of Pike and Dubois County, Indiana, 1885, including tentative lists of Civil War and Spanish – American War veterans compiled by Janet Kluemper, and lists of veterans of World War I, II, Korea, and Vietnam, through conflicts fought up to 2004. A collection of stories directly from the lives of the veterans is included in Volume I and more is in Volume II. All files used in producing these two volumes are kept at the Dubois County Museum. In addition, audio and video materials are deposited there in hopes that these will be valuable resource for researchers in the future. Information had been gathering by the committee with great respect for the past and an eye for the future, lest much of our country’s history be lost.
