Two historical figure portrayals by character actors will be presented by the Dubois
County Museum, located at 2704 N. Newton Street in Jasper, one on Saturday,
September 23, 2023 and another on Tuesday evening September 26, 2023. The museum
welcomes Kevin Stonerock and Stephen McPhail as part of the Lecture Series on
Historical People.

Kevin Stonerock brings the Hoosier Pioneer to the museum for a 10:30 a.m.
program on Saturday, September 23rd. The Hoosier Pioneer is a character compiled
from several different accounts of the period 1770-1810. The program centers on
the life of Andrew Amonett, a true-to-life frontiersman of the Indiana Territory. The
presentation, complete with tall tales, deals with various aspects of frontier life and
dangers faced in the Indiana Territory just prior to the War of 1812. Topics include
trapping, militia service, Indian affairs, tools, weapons and frontier clothing. The
program is best suited for grades 3-6, but also works well with adult audiences and
family groups.

The public is invited on Tuesday, September 26, at 6:30 p.m. for a special visit from our
own Hoosier folk star, Johnny Appleseed! It is Johnny’s birthday and the museum is
celebrating it.
Stephen McPhail portrays Johnny and has done extensive research on his character.
Mr. McPhail tries to present him as a real individual and not the myth we may know.
The museum will be celebrating Johnny’s birthday with cake and apple treats and all are
welcome to enjoy.
