The Dubois County Museum announced the continuation of their program for Archaeology Day. The
program will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the museum on 2704 N. Newton
Street (U.S. 231) in Jasper. Professor of Anthropology from University of Southern Indiana, Michael
Strezewski, returns to give a presentation. His talk is titled “Pottery Production in Pioneer-era Indiana
(1815-1825). This presentation will cover the pioneer-era production of redware pottery in Indiana.
Redware was the first Euromerican-type pottery made in Southern Indiana. It was largely used for
utilitarian, in-house purposes. Excavations and studies of surviving redware vessels can give us insight
into how this pottery was made and used within early nineteenth century households.
Local Archaeology enthusiast, Darrick Haas, will also be on hand to offer expert knowledge on
archaeology finds.
