Jim Hedinger to talk about Pioneer Andrew Evans and Early Jasper History at Brown Bag Lunch July 30 at Noon at Dubois County Museum

Jasper resident Jim Hedinger will speak on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at noon, for a Brown Bag Lunch
Talk on Jasper History, at the Dubois County Museum. Kick off your Jasper Strassenfest 2026 with this informative talk. Bring
your lunch and enjoy hearing about the early family that settled Jasper.
He is excited to share his knowledge of early Jasper history that includes one of the first pioneer
families of Jasper, the Andrew Evans Family. According to Hedinger and historian Ron Flick,
Colonel Andrew Evans came to Dubois County and constructed a wooden dam and grist mill,
with waterwheel, on the Patoka River. Flick called the spot “an ancient Indian ford and buffalo
crossing”. The mill was believed to date back to 1813. The mill changed hands several times
before Francis Xavier Eckert and his cousin, Alois Eckert, immigrants from Pfaffenweiler, Baden,
purchased the mill. Mr. Hedinger will include this in his history.
