Collect, Preserve, and Interpret the History of Dubois County

COLLECTIONS
The Dubois County Museum’s collections consist of over 59,000 artifacts donated mainly by local people.
The Dubois County Museum’s collections consist of over 60,000 artifacts donated mainly by local people. Items are accepted consistent with our mission to “collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Dubois County.” Please contact our Collection Committee before bringing in any items you want to donate.
The museum’s collection strengths include historical portraits, photographs, and negatives; military artifacts; sports memorabilia; Native American artifacts; textiles and artifacts from the early 1800s to the 1900s; dollhouses and miniatures; a log house; antique farm equipment; woodworking tools; and products made by local factories. All of the museum’s artifacts are curated and cataloged.
The John J. Fierst Library and Archives houses books, pamphlets, magazines, selected newspapers, and clippings. These archives consist of unpublished materials such as documents, manuscripts, videotapes, personal papers, maps, and music collections. Appointments are necessary to access the collection. Please make special arrangements to view the collection.
The museum has a large collection of photos and in addition, has negatives and images from Sprauer Studio, the Chase Studio, the Patmore Studio, Robert McCarty Photography and Picture Perfect. We would be happy to try and locate and reproduce any pictures for you from these collections for a small fee.

All monetary donations are greatly appreciated to achieve our Museum Mission. We have an outstanding collection of artifacts, but it takes all of us to keep them for the future of Dubois County.
